There are so many reasons to love Jayne Ann Krentz/Amanda Quick/Jayne Castle’s books. The characters are engaging, the plots intriguing, and the dialogues witty. When you pick up a book written by Ms. Krentz, your everyday life quickly disappear as you enter her characters’ worlds and vicariously enjoy their adventures. My favorite series is the Arcane Society novels. The society was founded by Sylvester Jones in the late 1600s. The dedicated women and men who belong to the society research everything paranormal, including artifacts and people with special talents. Most of them also have special abilities. One of the reasons …

I have a secret friend I speak to almost every day. I have no idea who he or she might be, but we communicate in Swedish. And no, it’s not an online friend and it is not an imaginary friend. Here’s how we met: The building I teach in have several wonderful study areas with comfy chairs and floor-to-ceiling white boards. I cut through one of those areas during my not-quite-awake yet stagger from my parked car to the office. One morning someone had written “Talar du Svenska?” in big red letters on the white board. The Emerald City Writing Conference was fabulous. Every year I think it can’t be as good as last year and every year the planning committee outdo themselves and set the bar higher. Right now I’m busy editing and polishing my WIP for a couple of full requests. I’ll post more about all the fun stuff that took place in Bellevue. Just found out I came in second in the “On the Far Side” contest. It’s always better to be a winner, of course, but I am so happy to be a finalist that the silver medal seems like even more cherries on top of an already amazing sundae. The editor who judged my category gave great feedback. She basically said she liked everything about the story: the pacing, the characters, the writing, but gave it a second place because she’s not a fan of mixing mythology with futuristic elements. (My story is about a genetically enhanced heroine who gets entangled …

If you haven’t read Kira Brady’s amazing debut novel, you are really missing out. But, here’s your chance to get your life back on track and win a signed copy. I read this book in one sitting. The plot, the characters, the world building had me completely enthralled and I can’t wait for the other two books of this dark paranormal trilogy to be released. In HEARTS OF DARKNESS, the people of Seattle use biofuels and diesel engines not because they’re ecologically aware, but because the Aether—ghosts on the wrong side of the Gate of the Land of the Dead—interfere …
