Conference Shenanigans in New York City

by Asa Maria Bradley

20150726_101442The Romance Writers of America‘s annual national conference just ended. It has been four days of non-stop fun. I can’t decide what I enjoyed more: the workshops, the fangirl moments, the visits with new and old friends, the RITA Golden Heart ceremony, or the amazing shoes people wore. πŸ™‚

It’s hard to put into words how much you learn and how much fun you have at the event. You really have to go to get the whole experience. Imagine a whole conference room filled with women–and a few men–who love what they do, are incredibly passionate about their work–and books in general–and can’t stop talking about it/sharing their knowledge/helping you in your career, no matter what level they are at in theirs. Bestselling authors who are at the pinnacle of their career trajectory are just as likely to chat in the bar with newbies as they are hanging out with their peers.

This was my first year as a contracted author and I was soaking in the moments. It was the first time I had lunch with my agent in New York. The first time I had lunch with my editor in New York. Did I mention this was a big publishing event in New York? Did I mention I was there? πŸ™‚
