Free Book Day: IN TOO DEEP by Jayne Ann Krentz

by Asa Maria Bradley

Krentz1-150x150There are so many reasons to love Jayne Ann Krentz/Amanda Quick/Jayne Castle’s books. The characters are engaging, the plots intriguing, and the dialogues witty. When you pick up a book written by Ms. Krentz, your everyday life quickly disappear as you enter her characters’ worlds and vicariously enjoy their adventures.

My favorite series is the Arcane Society novels. The society was founded by Sylvester Jones in the late 1600s. The dedicated women and men who belong to the society research everything paranormal, including artifacts and people with special talents. Most of them also have special abilities. One of the reasons for why I like this series so much is because Ms. Krentz pulls off something brilliant. She writes historical books about the Arcane Society under the name Amanda Quick, contemporary ones as Jayne Ann Krentz, and futuristic ones as Jayne Castle. I’m thrilled every time I read one of the contemporary books and realize that the reason the ancestors described seem so familiar is because I’ve read the novel where they were the main characters. It’s like revisiting old friends. I can’t imagine what the author goes through to keep all the timelines and characters straight across the series, but they are all integrated flawlessly.

At the RWA national conference in Anaheim last year, I had a chance to meet Ms. Krentz and went complete fan girl. I jabbered on a mile a minute about how much I liked her books. She patiently waited for me to finish and then posed for a picture with me, before signing a book.

In honor of an amazing author, gracious professional, and one of the most prolific writers I know, I’m giving away a signed copy of

InToDeepIN TOO DEEP. This contemporary Arcane Society novel is the first in the Looking Glass Trilogy. If you’re a fan, you’ll especially love this book because one of the reoccurring characters in the series, Fallon Jones, meets his match in feisty Isabella. This book has everything from a community of conspiracy theorists to villains masquerading as good guys. You’ll love it.

I don’t remember the names of the books that I read, actually you let me borrow them Asa, they were about the Arcane Society and I loved them! I went out and I found a few more titles in the series, though I haven’t read anything by her recently.

I love anything that will draw me in with good characters, intriguing storyline, a strong female (not completely helpless), mix in a bit of supernatural/mystical stuff, maybe a twist or two, a little humor and I’m hooked!

Thanks for all the great comments. I love it when readers (and writers) get together and dish about how much they love books. I’m traveling this weekend, but will pop up again on Monday to draw a winner.

You still have a few days left to enter.

What a great story line. I love just about everything paranormal. I really enjoy authors that take the time to talk or allow a photo with them. This is going on my TBR list. Keep writing so I can keep reading.

Jayne is not only a wonderful and prolific writer, but she gives back to the writing community. She has very graciously done many library events for the King County Library System, and has provided blurbs for many local authors, (including me). I could rave on and on about Jayne/Amanda and her kindness.

I’m terrible at remembering titles, but I remember characters! My favs: a victorian historical with a ‘bluestocking’ heroine named Imogene; a medieval with a would-be scientist/alchemist named Alyce; a contemporary where the hero was a professional knife-thrower. Geez, that Ms Jayne has quite the imagination! Love her!

What a great post. Asa, you are a sweet person and I wish nothing but success for you and for Ms. Krentz.

I prefer the contemporary stories, but am amazed one person can keep all the story lines straight. I love the paranormal aspects of the Arcane series, Love Running Hot. Kay Hooper got me started on paranormal and I followed up with Jane Ann Krentz.
I’m so impressed with you, Asa Marie. When I met Allison Brenan in Orlando, I couldn’t push a word out of my mouth. It opened a couple of times, but no words followed. My friend with me laughed. She’d never seen me at a loss for words. Thanks for highlighting Jane Anne.

I just finished reading In Too Deep. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Don’t want to spoil the book for the other readers but I loved the storyline. I especially enjoyed the artefacts that was discovered.

Jere’, as you know I seem to only read women. Maybe Emerald City is making you come to the dark side. I definitely think you need to come home for Get Lit!.

Karen, “After Glow” is one of my favorites.

Melia, I’m pretty sure you’ll find one of Jayne’s books in your TBR pile. She always show up in mine.

Mona, I didn’t know she wrote as Stephanie James. Now I have to go look for those books and the Candlelight Ecstasy ones. Thanks for the tip.

My very first category romance was “Dangerous Beast” by Stephanie James, an earlier pen name for Jayne Ann Krentz…for Silhouette. Before that she wrote for Candlelight Ecstasy. I had some of those also. The Arcane series has been one of my favorites though Bodyguard was a special early favorite. I’d be hard pressed to pick the stand out Arcane favorite, though I think I like the historical and futuristic stories a bit more than the contemporary. Something about those dust bunnies…
I just finished Quicksilver, what great fun story to read.

I love contemporary romance, and am working my way through a HUGE TBR pile of books! I’m thinking there’s a Jayne Ann Krentz book or two in there somewhere. LOL. So many books, so little time!

Karen Johnson (KJ) January 21, 2013 - 5:28 pm

I read her Jayne Castle novel “After Glow” and liked it. I’ll add the Arcane series to my list.

Jere January 21, 2013 - 5:22 pm

Hooray! I got to post first! Love this author actually! I meant to tell you something before I lost my voice: I seem to only be able to read women authors lately. I wonder if it was all the girl power from the Emerald City Conference! So glad you gave me the Laura Read book too. Maybe I should come home for Get Lit this year!
