My dog Sammy plays well with other dogs, for the most part. Being a shepherd mix, he tends to want to herd all his playmates into one convenient group by nipping them on their neck. Today, I received a package from my mom and dad in Sweden. After visiting our new kitchen earlier this year, they decided there were some essential equipment lacking. So, I am now the proud owner of 6 long stemmed coffee measures, 6 long stemmed spoons, and 3 tubes of Kalles Kaviar. Nothing mysterious about any of that, right? Today, someone at work told me about something that had happened to them, and ended with the words “You should write about that.” I also have non-writer friends who suggests titles and character names and plot points. Although I love the support and interest I get from my family, friends, coworkers, acquaintances, and total strangers in the line at the grocery store–I sometimes wish they weren’t quite so enthusiastic. This made me laugh out loud, even though it is such a serious topic. My mom is a breast cancer survivor and I am very conscious of the fact that it isn’t just a disease that impacts women. Every woman who lives with cancer is someone’s mother, or wife, or sister, or friend. This is something that impacts women and men–just like any other type of cancer.
