Free Book Day: Get to know the Icicle Village Series by Sheila Roberts

by Asa Maria Bradley

WSWI’m delighted to have Sheila Roberts answer questions about her Icicle Village series on the blog today.

I’m a big fan of the books and when my husband and I took a mini vacation in Leavenworth, the town which inspired Shelia’s series, I was delighted to find her signing books at the fabulous A Book for All Seasons. If you haven’t been to Leavenworth yet, you should definitely visit this Bavarian inspired village. Until you do, there is always Shelia’s wonderful novels to tie you over.

Two lucky visitors to the blog will receive author signed copies of Sheila’s WHAT SHE WANTS or BETTER THAN CHOCOLATE. To enter, just leave a comment below. The contest ends Wednesday June 12th at 5 pm PST.

Here’s my interview with Sheila:

What inspired you to write about Icicle Falls and how is your village different from Bavarian Leavenworth?

I was actually inspired by the town of Leavenworth. I’d been coming up there to visit for years and the more I got to know some of the people who live there, the more I learned about the history of the town, the more I wanted to pay tribute to it in a book. Leavenworth has quite an impressive history. By the early sixties it was on the verge of becoming a ghost town. The people who were left got together and decided to reinvent themselves – they figured with the mountains they could be as lovely as any Bavarian village – so that’s what they did. It took a lot of hard work but the hard work paid off. Today the town is a tourist destination. Real estate has held its value and the town is prospering. “And we did it all without government assistance,” brags one of the old-timers. I’d say that’s pretty impressive.

In WHAT SHE WANTS, three guys try to figure out how to become the men women want by reading romance novels. I laughed out loud several times while reading this book and loved the three main guys in the book. If you were to cast Jonathan, Kyle, and Adam for the movie version of your book, who would play them?

You know, I’m just not sure. I’d love some suggestions!

[Asa: I could totally see Michael Cera as Jonathan, Seth Rogen as Kyle, and Paul Rudd as Adam. But that’s just my favorite fantasy lineup. πŸ˜‰ What do our visitors suggest?]
Being underweight: If your body fat levels are 10-15 per cent under normal standards too, your reproductive system could occur.Heart attack, stroke, irregular heartbeats, and death have been reported rarely in men taking this drug. cialis generic cipla Men and women who have a healthy https://www.unica-web.com/archive/2000/upatron2000.html online pharmacies viagra sexual life. Steroids will manage to boost your Testosterone levels excellently but it all comes viagra australia cost up with a lot of bad side effects. Alimentation has a critical viagra super role.
In your Icicle Falls series, the town itself is almost a character and you have many reoccurring secondary characters. How do you keep all the details straight and maintain consistency through the series?

Let me tell you, I spend a lot of time looking things up in previous books. My husband, who’s also my business assistant is helping me create what’s called a Bible – a document that describes the various characters and notes important details.

I love the recipe cards you give out and also the ones on your website. What’s your favorite desert to make?

That is almost impossible to answer since I never met a desert I didn’t like. I do make a fabulous Frango mint pie. Oh, and lavender cake. And Key lime pie. So many calories, so little time!

Your past careers include owning a singing telegram company and playing in a band. Is writing songs creatively different than writing stories or do the activities have elements in common?

Well, both writing books and writing songs require some imagination. With a song, however, you have to be very concise. You’re telling a story in two verses, a bridge and a chorus. A book you have a little more space. Book writing is solitary while songwriting is often a join venture. I work with a co-writer when I write songs. Actually, one of songs became a music video (we made it as a book trailer for my novel “Merry Ex-mas”. If you check out “Merry Christmas Mama” by Sheila Roberts on Youtube you can see me in action as the naughty mother-in-law.

The contest is now closed. Random.org picked Kathryn and Rebecca as the winners. I’ve contacted them via email.

Congratulations and thanks everyone for playing. Stay tuned for more interviews and giveaways!

You’ll love it, Rebecca. It’s all from the male POV and at times I howled with laughter because of the conclusions the guys got from the romance novels.

Wonderful interview…and I love the video! I always spend so much time looking up details in previous books in a series…a series bible seems to be the way to go. πŸ™‚ I haven’t read WHAT SHE WANTS yet, but I’m definitely adding it to my TBR pile.

Kathy, that lineup always has my head spinning too. I can’t wait for their new movie. πŸ™‚

Lee, you’re going to love this series.

Jenna, that’s hilarious. If I write a series, I’ll have to make sure my “bible” has a place for obituaries.

Alexis, I so agree with you on JR. My only problem with the last Bourne movie was that Jeremy had too many clothes on.

Sheila, so sorry about the sum messing you up. One of my critique partners says she won’t comment on my blog until I take the math problems away. She insists that writers don’t do math. Since I’m a physicist and a writer, I disagree. πŸ˜‰

Hey guys, thanks for the comments. Jenna, that is hilarious about the dead character! I have to go check out Jeremy Renner.
P.S. I just put the wrong sum in the spambot box and had to redo. (Was thinking 10 – 4. There’s a reason I don’t do the family finances!)

Alexis Morgan June 6, 2013 - 6:12 am

You can never go wrong casting a movie with Jeremy Renner. I’m just saying. ;-D And I loved the video!

Congratulations on the new series!

This is an awesome interview! Love the video – which I have seen before, but it just gets better and better.

And I can definitely relate to having to look things up in previous books. In my last mystery, I went to use a recurring character from previous books and then thought, “No, wait. Didn’t I kill her in the last one?” But since I wasn’t sure, I had to check. And lo and behold, she was dead. Just goes to show how hard it is to keep things straight sometimes, when you can’t even remember the people you kill. πŸ˜‰

It’s been some time since I read a series; this looks like a fun read. Love Levenworth, so story set in Bavarian village is delightful. Like the quirky plot. Humor, music, food… three of my favorite things!

Kathy June 5, 2013 - 11:26 pm

What She Wants sounds so fun! I’m going to have to pick that up. Your fantasy lineup definitely has my mind whirling, Asa.
